Buckets Domesticate The Huskies, 20-7
Los Angeles- In a game much closer than expected, the Buckets finally put the competitive visiting Okanagan Huskies to rest with some big D stops and timely 1st down conversions late in the 4th Quarter to win, 20-7.
"The Huskies Coach Ray Y really called a good overall game. He has some good plays in there that worked well at times. We got some big breaks to pull this one out." Buckets Coach Jay T said.
Okanagon took their opening drive all the way to the Buckets 13 yard line on a big 19-yard pass play but Huskies WR Jeff Robbins fumbled the ball on the tackle and L.A. recovered to stop their momentum. The Buckets simply out-guessed them from there to take a 17-0 before Okanagan broke the shutout after a huge screen pass in the 4th Quarter to cut the lead to 10. That was as close as they would get.
For the second straight week, L.A. lost a star player to injury. Last week it was All-Star QB Pat Binder, this week it was fellow All-Star RB Carlos Myles. He left the game with 78 yards on just FOUR carries for a whopping 19.5 average before straining his hamstring. He is expected to fully recover in time for next week's showdown with the Augusta Vipers.
New starting QB David Erickson played okay going 24/44 for 207 yards and 2 TD's but missed badly on the deep ball. Several open WR's were left scratching their heads on both sides of the ball as Okanagan's QB Shelby Dalliafor also sputtered several passes. He was hurt on their last play of the game but his bruised shoulder should be healed for his next game against the Jacksonville Cobras.
Thanx for the GREAT game, Huskies Coach Ray Y!
Cheers,
Jay
